8 Savvy Tips You Need Now to Be Perfectly Prepared for Fall

8 Savvy Tips You Need Now to Be Perfectly Prepared for Fall

Well, it’s officially Fall!

I feel like summer flew by in the blink of an eye, and before we know it, we will be cozying up in cashmere, making hot cocoa, and having holiday movie marathon. If you’re ready to get into the spirit of the season, keep reading for 8 Savvy Tips You Need Now to Be Perfectly Prepared for Fall.

8 Savvy Tips You Need Now to Be

Perfectly Prepared for Fall

1.      Refresh your wardrobe for Fall

As soon as I’m back from my trip to Paris, priority number 1 is rolling my closet from summer to Fall. That means packing away my sundresses, tanks and shorts and pulling out the sweater dresses and leather pants! Even though I store everything either hanging in a separate closet or cleaned and folded in storage bins, they still sometimes need a little refresh before wearing. I’ll air things out on a hanging rack or do a quick DIY dry clean just to freshen them up.

It also gives me a chance to do a mini closet inventory. Any summer items that are in poor condition or I’ve just fallen out of love with can donated, and any Fall favorites that need some tailoring or repairs can get taken care of before I’m ready to wear them.

2.      Boost your immune system as the weather changes

You probably don’t have to think too much about Vitamin D in the summer since it’s so easy to get the sun in! We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases when the weather is colder since we spend most of our time inside during the fall/winter seasons. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D supplement can boost your mood and immune system!

3.      Deep clean your house

We do spring cleaning so why not fall? The colder weather this time of year means you’ll naturally be spending more time indoors, so take some time at the start of the season to create a space you’ll love.  Scrub down the areas of your house that are likely to collect germs, like the kitchen and the bathrooms. Go through your cabinets and dust the hard-to-reach places that you may neglect during your normal weekly cleaning.

You can also take some time to make sure your home is prepared for extreme weather conditions that may occur later in the year.  Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, and snow blower and shovel, and basic emergency equipment and medical supplies.

4.      Save and practice some new soup recipes

Cozy season is the perfect time to warm, comforting food. Browse Pinterest for some new soup or stew recipes and if you’ve been eyeing a slow cooker or Instant Pot, now is the perfect time to buy one! I personally can’t wait for lazy, chilly days inside with a bowl of my homemade Instant Pot Chicken Soup.

5. Do some financial planning

This time of year is a great time to review your finances and asses where you are before the end of the year. Take some time to review your debt, savings, and any progress you've made towards financial goals you may have set for yourself in the beginning of 2022. If things look bleak, don't worry too much or get too anxious. Reflection is an important step to start making progress. If you have been lucky enough to make some major money moves or have some financial wins, talk to your accountant or tax preparer to get an estimate of what your tax liability might look like. You'll still have a few months to make adjustments that could reduce your tax burden come April.

 6. Upgrade Your head-to-toe hydration

The temps start getting cooler and drier in Fall, so now is the time to step up your moisturizing game. Add some hydrating skin care, with a focus on ingredients like hyaluronic acid and collagen. Even though summer is over, that doesn't mean put the sunscreen down. Daily sunscreen use is proven to prevent fine lines, wrinkles, and early signs of aging, as well as reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.

And when it comes to moisturizing, don't neglect the rest of your body! Swap your lighter summer lotions for rich body butters and ultra-moisturizing oils to keep hydrated from head to toe. And speaking of head - now is a great time to check up on the health of your hair and try a new deep conditioner or moisturizing mask as well.

7. Switch up your fitness routine

I love my summer workouts, but the slightly cooler temps make me want to do more outdoor fitness. The summer heat is far too oppressive, but a lot of outdoor activities become way more fun in September and October. Things like hiking, walking, or running, or even outdoor calisthenics are a blast when it's not 95 degrees and sunny every day. Plus, if you have end of year fitness goals, or want to prevent holiday weight gain, try a Fall fitness challenge to keep you engaged.  I get a lot of inspiration and ideas from some of my fave fitness YouTubers and looking at local resources for ideas for outdoor calorie burning activities.

 8.  Use your vacation time

Fall is one of my favorite times to travel. The weather is still warm enough in some of the summer hot spot destinations, but the prices and crowds drop significantly. Plus, it’s cheaper to travel in fall since it’s part of shoulder season, and prices will start to tick up closer to the holidays.

Since Americans notoriously underuse our PTO, the last few months of the year can serve as a friendly reminder to put some vacation days in and use them before it’s too late.

What are you guys most excited about for fall? For me, it’s the change in fashion and the cozy, comforting food!
