Halloween weekend is here! Since I clearly love dressing up in my daily life, you can pretty much guess that Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. Fall is in full swing, the air is crisp and days shorter, and there is so much inspiration and creativity going around. I had my costumes planned for sometime, when I found 2 amazing dresses at L-Train Vintage. When I saw this yellow ball gown the answer was obvious!
The Beauty & The Beast movie was one of the buzziest this year, so the costume choice was natural. But if you were dragging your feet and are stuck on a costume idea, here are a few tips to help you figure one out by Tuesday!
Hit Up Your Local Vintage Stores
They are a treasure chest of goodies, from 80’s dresses, 90’s style looks and fun, funky and weird items. The dresses I found were probably old bridesmaid or prom dresses, but they work! My unicorn look last year started with a vintage satin and tulle dress that was just $12. Spend the weekend digging around for something to base your costume on, and then figure out makeup and accessories.

Recycle an Old Look
My unicorn look from last year can easily be turned into several other costumes, like ballerina, bride, or fairy. Think about old costumes or dresses that can be used again in a new creative way. Glitzy old prom or bridesmaid dress -- Diana Ross or a 60’s starlet. Black mini dress and tights – grab some ears and be an animal of your choice, or braided pigtails and be Wednesday Adams. Think creatively and work with what you’ve got!
And no matter how rushed you get, try to avoid culturally inappropriate costumes! If someone’s race or nationality is the base for the costume in question, just don’t do it!
Happy Halloween!
